The Two Sisters (Child 10)This is a featured page

.. G................................... C ......... G
Two sisters walked by a miller’s stream,
........... D7
O the wind and the rain.
...... G.................................. C ............ G
The one behind pushed the other one in,
C ........ Em ...... C............G
O the dreadful wind and rain.

One pushed the other then walked alone,
They both loved the miller’s son,

The miller's son was a fiddler fair,
He loved the one with golden hair.

Sometimes she sank, sometimes she swam,
He found her in his fathers' dam,

She floated on down to the miller’s pond,
Atop the dam there swims a swan!

The millers’ son ran down the hill,
Pulled her out of his mill wheel,

The miller’s son was a fiddler fair,
He strung his bow with her golden hair,

He made a little fiddle of her breastbone,
Whose sound would melt a heart of stone,

The only tune that the fiddle would play,
Was, "O the wind and the rain."
The only tune that the fiddle would play,
Was, "O the dreadful wind and rain."

He sat it down and it sang alone,
A sister with a heart of stone,

The only tune it would play again,
Was, "O the wind and the rain,
For your love she threw me in.
O the dreadful wind and rain."
