Someplace Green
(Rod McKuen)
......... E ............. B7 ......... E .............. A
The Good Lord made Man ... then he rested
.. E .. B7 ..... E
For a little while.
........... A ........... E ............ B7 .. E .. A
Said “Look what I’ve done, ain’t he pretty?”
................................. B7
Then he cracked a smile.
....... A ........................... E ......... A .. E .. A
“I’ll watch him grow. I’ll hear him talk,
E ......................... B7
Learn to love and fight,
.......... E .......... B7 ..... E7 .... A
But when he’s had his fill of these
..... E ............ B7 ........... E
I’ll walk him through the night, to -
.................. F#m7 .. B7 ............ E
Someplace green - Someplace nice,
......... F#m7 ... B7 ..... E ... E7
Someplace that I call Paradise,
.................. A ...... E
Growing greener in the rain,
........... F#m7 ......... B7 ...... E
Waiting there - for Man to claim.”
The Good Lord looked down on the Earth
One afternoon and frowned.
Said “Man ain’t learned an awful lot
Since I carved him out of ground.
He’s built a lot of steeples,
Of clay and rocks and sand
But he hasn’t learned to get along
With his fellow man. And -
The Good Lord’s been around a while,
Eternity at least,
And I guess he’ll be around a while
When time and tide have ceased.
Looking down from somewhere
Trying hard to find
If man has earned his paradise,
The other side of time, and -
Someplace green - Someplace nice,
Someplace that He calls Paradise,
Is growing greener in the rain,
Waiting there - for Man to claim.
