Michael Flanders (1922-1975) and Donald Swann (1923-1994) wrote many humorous and satirical songs. Their most famous revue was At the Drop of a Hat, which was followed by At the Drop of Another Hat.

Misalliance

Who but Michael Flanders and Donald Swann could write a piece about the habits of climbing plants, and turn it into a protest against narrow-minded racism or class-consciousness reminiscent of Romeo and Juliet? From their 1950s review, At the Drop of a Hat. Here are the lyrics.

The Reluctant Cannibal

One of my favourite Flanders and Swann songs - if you could call it a song. Most of it is spoken! It comes from their most famous live album, At The Drop Of a Hat.

It is a very funny song about the generation gap, entrenched attitudes and, finally, a clever anti-war song. Here is their performance from the album.

Here is a little quiz about the song!

Here is my attempt to perform this song and here are the lyrics.

Song of the Weather

It's not surprising that so many expatriates in Asia have no desire to return to England, if the weather is really as bad as it is described in this song.

This one is from their two-man revue, At the Drop of a Hat, which was recorded in 1960.
Here is me singing it and here are the lyrics.

The Wom-Pom Song

You can hear Flanders and Swann sing this song.
