lewdite (1 year ago) I had forgotten how good Dylan's lyrics are... thanks for this.
Actually, having read about the discovery of the Gospel of Judas, it seems that Judas did have God on his side. According to the Gospel that bears his name, Judas was the only one who truly understood Jesus. Because everyone likes to claim God (on their side) and kill in his name, it is only a short step to where one might classify God as the universal weapon of mass destruction.
raymondcrooke (1 year ago) Thanks for that interesting bit of information. Dylan's lyrics are always interesting, and sometimes brilliant. I'm also one of those who think he's a great singer, but a lot of people disagree with me on that.
lewdite (1 year ago) Perhaps the greatest voice in recorded history.
kummernummer (1 year ago) he is a great singer - definitely :-)
coolanddark (1 year ago) wonderful happy Dylan classic.i think he was 19 when he wrote this.incredible.great work as always Raymond
raymondcrooke (1 year ago) Interesting concept of happiness! Yes, it's a wonderful song. Keep up the good work, Dan. You're becoming a YouTube superstar.

raymondcrooke (1 year ago) Hard to imagine the US is ready to vote in a black president. Did I just see a pig fly past my window? Hope it happens, but the war should never have begun in the first place.
Shirley did an excellent job of covering your song.
beniak2 (1 year ago) Nice cover, and very moody guitar.
raymondcrooke (1 year ago) Thanks. The guitar does get a bit moody at times.
DardisMusic (1 year ago) You've been a busy man of late Raymond. Nice version.
blueukulele (1 year ago) They don't write them like this anymore. great version. i love the guitar, bass, pluck style, takes me back to learning the guitar with a Jerry Silverman book!
losthills (1 year ago) Jerry Silverman!
I've got a couple of his books in my library....
raymondcrooke (1 year ago) I no longer have a library. It doesn't work with the kind of nomadic lifestyle I've been leading.
raymondcrooke (1 year ago) Not sure what book I used, but that's how I got my rather limited guitar-playing techniques. I think it was just an appendix at the end of a book of folk-songs.
coldironsbound82 (1 year ago) good to see you posting again. another great cover, always valid.
raymondcrooke (1 year ago) Thanks. I look forward to more of your Dylan covers.

However, I do not know this song. Thanks, I just may learn it (for old times sake)
canegracehasettevite (1 year ago) This is very good. Thank you. blueukulele (1 year ago) Excellent raymond. TravisTricky (1 year ago) Ah Cod Liver Oil. My family is from Newfoundland :D Great Big Sea do a version of this as well, I didn't realize this song was so old though! babybookworm003 (1 year ago) people still take it today only in pill form lol RonanCeol (1 year ago) Very good Raymond, never heard this song before. You've made me really want a classical guitar, now I have the task of finding an affordable one with a pickup. And as has been said, lots of people still take cod liver oil today, and in oil form it is pretty revolting so most people take pills. WilliamCerf (1 year ago) Raymond, I wish I had know of this song when I was five years old. My grandmother gave me cod liver oil for every conceivable ailment. I remember the Dr. John brand. Yes, it does taste revolting. It was a very popular remedy in the USA and Canada until the 1950's when it started to fall out of favor. - Yuck!! Great tune though. MarieLynn3 (1 year ago) OMG! Heheheee :)
Nasty nasty stuff!
My grandmother kept some in her medicine chest, and grandma would often brag about it's beneficial qualities. So what does a curious 10 year old do at the urging of her older brother? Of course... try it! Hahahaa... BLEHHH! :)
Thanks for the memory jolt Raymond :)

SirCoughsalot (9 months ago) I really like this one. The words and melody are haunting and beautiful, and I think the title is great. "Just another little murder for the tabloids..." it's sad how true that line is. People can see a news story about a brutal murder on TV, they'll say, "Oh my God, that's terrible," and go right on eating their supper. It's such a terrible thing that abused women stay in the abusive relationship, believing that their love can change a person. 'Nuff said. raymondcrooke (9 months ago) Thank you. Serge165 (1 year ago) I find that interesting myself when I come across a song that I thought was purely of American origin. It's common, as lyrics are adapted and changed often when they are sung. The Term "Hillbilly" even has roots in Ireland.

raymondcrooke (10 months ago) You are welcome, and thanks for all your recent support. Apart from my problem of now having to upload my videos via Australia, I've now had Part 4 of this song removed for infringing copyright!!? I think my channel is under threat.
raymondcrooke (10 months ago) CAN ANYONE HELP?
Part 4 of this song has been removed by YouTube due to a copyright claim by World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc.
Does anyone have any explanation for this? I have no idea how any part of this song is infringing copyright.
The lyrics of Part 4 are available here: raymondcrookeDOTbravehostDOTco m/Original/Songfor100Subscribe rs4DOThtm
Any help with this would be appreciated.
raymondcrooke (9 months ago) Two weeks ago, I put in a Counter Notification against the Copyright Infringement claim and today (June 24, 2008) the video of Part 4 has been restored without penalty. At least the incident inspired me to write a song - YouTube Copyright Blues - which you can find amongst my videos.

raymondcrooke (1 year ago) I used to love this song. My parents had it in their collection of 78s. I remember having the piano music for it too. Thanks for your comment.
DardisMusic (1 year ago) LOL. This was a very big favourite (believe it or not) on building sites in Dublin in the mid-1990s. It was a bit of a surreal experience walking into a canteen and hearing a group of men sing 'at six o'clock, their mammy's and daddies will come to pick them up,' etc. Nice memories.
raymondcrooke (1 year ago) I can just imagine it. That would certainly be something to see and hear!

idbowman82 (1 year ago) Oh, Raymond...I'm so thrilled you've performed this for us! This song means a great deal to me, and to hear one of my favorite youtubers have a go at is an absolute treat.
My mother, God rest her, used to sing this to me when I was a young boy. It would always make me cry because I always felt 6 o'clock was too early to leave the picnic and go to sleep!
Thank you so much!

TravisTricky (1 year ago) A choir, may I assume a religious choir? Not to insinuate or imply anything about any religion (for the record) but I was just curious. Sound like a hymn of some sort.
Travis
raymondcrooke (1 year ago) No, we are not a religious choir, but, like most choirs, religious songs are an important part of our repertoire, especially as hymns play such an important role in Welsh musical tradition.
canegracehasettevite (1 year ago) Have a nice trip; you find us all here when you come back.

This was one of the first songs I ever heard, as my parents had it on a 78rpm record when I was a child. ORBSTEWBALL (1 year ago) Say
Raymond...
The first time I had ever heard this great ditty was in the 1933 comedy classic,"She Done Him Wrong"...performed by the legendary Mae West.
You have demonstrated your uncanny ability to present these beloved folk chestnuts in their purest form...which only goes to demonstrate that they need no embellishment and stand on their own. Nothing beats a story song.
Many sincere thanks for sharing your brilliant rendition,Raymond.:)
Peace,
Stewball
